This Isn’t The Conversation Boston’s NWSL Team Wanted
Plus, Overtime Elite is in the star-making business.
Jay Z and Roc Nation are staying in charge of the Super Bowl halftime show, extending the agreement that has recently brought the likes of Rihanna, The Weeknd, and this year, Kendrick Lamar to the biggest stage in sports. With an Atlanta Super Bowl just announced, Jay Z better have OutKast on speed dial.
Bronny James is the son of the GOAT, and enters the NBA season with more attention than any second-round rookie we’ve ever seen because of it. The weight of expectation is upon him, but he’s really just chasing peace.
Jude Bellingham has a new signature collection with Adidas, including his own version of the iconic Predator soccer boot. We’re as hyped about it as he is.
It’s been 15 years and $3 billion in player salary since the Yankees won the World Series. Now the Bronx Bombers are six wins away from breaking the cold streak. No pressure boys!
Formula 1 is tracking the diet, exercise, and sleep cycles of its most important athletes. No, not just the drivers—their pit crews too. Tough to tell what’s harder—driving 200 mph or changing a tire in less than two seconds. We couldn’t do either.

Boston’s new NWSL team made big news yesterday in a variety of ways. Some…better than others. The first bit of news was the name: BOS Nation FC. Between it being anagram for “Bostonian,” a reference to the city’s airport code, and evoking the general essence of “boss vibes,” there was a lot going on. Response was mixed, but a bold choice will do that.
What was less well-received was the way that BOS Nation made the announcement. The team’s debut brand campaign was centered around the idea of “too many balls” in Boston. The issues were readily apparent—some trivial (this was a lot of “balls” talk for a Tuesday morning), others not. We’ll let Lesley Ryder explain.
NWSL Boston has a name, and a new controversy.
The good news? The NWSL has been here before. Will Bos Nation stay for good?

It wasn’t a dream start for the franchise, which pulled the campaign and issued an apology after backlash online, but let’s not let a rough roll out shade the team forever. The NWSL is expanding! An OG WoSpo team is back! That rules! There’s plenty to be excited about.
BOS Nation FC is led by an all-women ownership group that includes celeb headliners including Elizabeth Banks and Aly Raisman. Buying sports teams is all the rage right now, but no league in the world boasts an A-List ownership class like the NWSL.
The last 24 hours wasn’t pretty for BOS Nation FC, but there’s still enthusiasm amongst the fan base for NWSL soccer to return to Boston for the first time since the Breakers folded in 2018. BOS Nation FC starts play in 2026. Plenty of time between now and then for a fresh start (and if they choose, a new name).
LONZO BALL IS FINALLY BACK AFTER 2 YEARS 😭

Before it was anything else, Overtime was a social video company, packaging highlights of the best young basketball players from across the country into bite-sized, perfectly Instagrammable videos. Some of their current work still reflects those simple origins.
But after building a social media empire, Overtime pushed for more via Overtime Elite—a league that gave high schoolers an alternative to the NCAA. Before the NIL days, high schoolers who were looking at an NBA future but didn’t want to wait a year, could go to Overtime Elite to get training and exposure they needed.
In the NIL era, the math has changed, but Overtime’s pivot has been as good as that of any of its players. While players can now get paid in college, the best young players in the country are still looking for top-level coaching and, now more than ever, help building their brand to maximize off-court earnings. With their “Drive To Survive”-esque docuseries “One Shot,” Overtime is the perfect place to do just that. Season 2 premieres in two weeks.
