Hey, OffBall fam. I mentioned Friday that I’m taking a little vacation (and you certainly saw it, because you read every single newsletter I send, and, in fact, you have a hard time getting your day started properly without reading my newsletters).

But fear not, while I’m gone, we’ll still send you the top stories of the day so you’re still in the know on all the fun and important stories happening over the next fortnight. Maybe we’ll even throw in a little surprise or two.

So enjoy while I have a few too many vegan English breakfasts and develop an appreciation for big giant iced coffees. Until then, enjoy the bliss of these last two weeks of summer (last at least in the spiritual and sports sense, because things will turn up before we know it) and I’ll be back for a special Labor Day newsletter on Tuesday, Sept 8!

To tide you over in the interim, read on to see what stories I’m keeping my eyes on.

…er, actually, a hair-cutting decision, but it certainly stopped me in my tracks. Who do we have to thank for the loss of his gorgeous blond locks? Maybe this influencer. Or, I don’t know, sometimes people do these things after a breakup.

NYCers and/or US Open-goers, Racquet Mag has got a full watch party and general party itinerary for the duration of the tournament. Start with this screening tomorrow night for Coco Gauff’s (!) Zina Garrison doc.

It feels like everything in the world is a bubble these days. AI, housing markets, other stuff (probably). Now, people are theorizing sports might be a bubble — what with the Clippers’ mess, the Timberwolves weirdness, the US Open being overcrowded and pricing fans out (don’t shoot the messenger), and NFL players going back to college. I don’t actually understand what a bubble is, so I’ll let you tell me if it’s true.

College football is dang near back, and I feel like I already forgot everything that happened last season. Thank you to the Defector for this handy dandy (and very juicy) recap

And though it may be cooling down outside, the  WNBA is really really starting to heat up. I’m obsessed with this NY slang video by the Liberty, this video that proves AJ Dybantsa really knows ball, and the Portland Fire’s mascot reveal, which has been an amazing campaign from start to finish.
