Sportchella Weekend One

Mikal Bridges gamed the system on Sunday when he played for 6 seconds, committed a foul, and dipped. He didn’t want to break his consecutive-games-played streak, which we understand, but should there be an asterisk next to it now? Sound off in the comments (thankfully, we don’t have comments). 

A lot of people say backup quarterback is their dream job, and they have a point. But now Washington Commanders’ backup QB Josh Johnson has been dealt 22 times and played on 14 different rosters. Hopefully he has a brand deal with a moving company. 

In 8th grade, everyone’s favorite LA Rams receiver Puka Nacua, got in trouble, and his mom changed his IG handle to “Pukaizded.” Years later, he says he still hasn’t changed it—maybe he’s still grounded. Need to find mom and ask. 

Flau’Jae Johnson tricked us. After teasing that she had a big announcement, we were expecting a transfer portal graphic any minute. But it’s all good—she’s just geauxing on tour. Phew. 

Coachella felt even more like a whole thing this year in its first weekend than it has in recent memory. Every celebrity and their dog’s dog were there. 

The NCAA Gymnastics Finals may be in a few days (April 17-19) in Fort Worth, TX, but that didn’t stop Jordan Chiles from having a little fun in the Cali desert sun. In a really fun outfit, might we add.  

It seems like every year, Shaun White is kind of the king of Coachella, so you may not be surprised to know he was back for more once again. 

Since Green Day headlined on Saturday, they were there (makes sense), but did you know about Billie Joe Armstrong's sporty roots in Oakland? He was recently spotted out at an Oakland Ballers (a minor league team) game—because, along with Too $hort, he’s part of the Ballers’ ownership. Yeah, sorry, that’s called burying the lede. 

So thanks to the legends, Olympic medalists, and even team owners in attendance, Coachella weekend one was giving sports.

You’re probably familiar with French hoopers La Magicianne aka Marine Johannes—she became famous in New York for her one leg jumper two seasons ago—and Gabby Williams of the Seattle Storm.

Although we still have no confirmation on whether the two are dating or not, the internet is convinced they got married. The rumors started last season while Marine was playing in the EuroLeague, not the W. When the Storm faced the Liberty in Brooklyn, Marine (who, again, was not back with the Liberty yet) was randomly in the stands. And oh yeah, she had a huge rock on her finger. 

They played (and medaled together) for Team France in the Olympics, and the peanut gallery’s murmurs grew a little louder. 

And so did the fan cams. 

Fast forward to now, and Gabby seems to be wearing a ring of her own on her left finger.

And just this weekend, when Gabby won EuroLeague Defensive Player of the Year (for the second time) Marine was there in an-almost-matching cropped brown suit. The ring? Still on Gabby’s left finger. The proof? Gabby posted a grid photo of the two of them to Instagram. The comments on the post? Have been limited. 

Was it a hard launch, or are we all making something out of nothing???
