Playboy Carti And Dua Lipa Are Pitching Fits

Plus, how Stormzy became South London's soccer saviour.

…ESPN is beefing up its NBA Christmas buffet with a Disney alt-cast during Spurs-Knicks. Mickey and friends won’t rival Beyoncé in viewership, but will have a slam dunk contest at halftime! Sign us up.

This Fear Of God collection just dropped and it is essential. The first installment in this Jerry Lorenzo pro hoops collab includes apparel from five NBA sides and three from the WNBA. Not a bad Christmas gift for a loved one. Or yourself. We won’t judge.

The cultural influence of college cheerleaders is obvious, but the NIL money hasn’t been flowing in unfortunately. This is absolutely insane, and feels like an untapped market worth diving in.

The sportswear marketplace is running red hot, with fast-growing names like On, Hoka and New Balance on a generational run, pushing old heads Nike and Adidas to up their game. People can’t get enough tracksuits and running shoes, setting up a global brand battle in 2025.

We’re paying tribute to the OG WAG, Lizzy Cundy, for trailblazing an entire generation of influential women. Cundy didn’t get her flowers at the time, but her 18-year marriage to Jason Cundy started it all.

Playboi Carti’s fashion taste is unpredictable, but his stans follow his lead. He’s been wearing backwards jerseys to promote his new albums, make appearances, bringing a smile to every Millennial’s face, because who hasn’t dreamed of wearing a backwards Penny Hardaway jersey in their life?

The throwbacks and jersey choices have been immaculate. Carti broke out a Vince Carter throwback while performing with The Weeknd, posed in a custom Hawks uniform and is on the hunt for a Bronny James next.

The abrupt shift from all black attire to sports apparel collector has Carti fans wondering if this is part of an album rollout. Even if it’s not, it’s a timeless look that went out of style in the 2000s when Jay-Z shamed us out of jerseys and into button-up shirts,  a cringe fad captured in all our college photos.

However, this jersey revival is more inclusive than ever. Dua Lipa is basking in her sports moment, designing jerseys for her album merch Radical Optimism. She rocked a Philippines baseball jersey during her recent visit to the islands and arrived at Austin City Limits with a custom Longhorns jersey. Texas hasn’t looked that good since Beyoncé donned the burnt orange.

The ladies love their oversized jerseys and Daisy Dukes, from Addison Rae to Bella Hadid both throwing their modern twists on a retro fit. We’re still waiting on hockey jerseys to enter the chat, like Snoop Dogg in the Gin and Juice music video, but if you see someone wearing a backwards NBA jersey, you know why. It’s Carti’s fault.

Stormzy hasn’t forgotten his origin story. He was just a kid from South London before he became a Grime legend, and now he’s co-chairman of his neighborhood's football club – AFC Croydon Athletic.

This project is ‘Welcome To Wrexham’ for the streets. We haven’t seen such an ambitious football celebrity takeover, especially for an inner-city club with zero history. But the results are pouring in for the club, and the community.

The Trams were promoted to the eighth tier during Stormzy’s first season, and he celebrated by flying the players to Ibiza

Stormzy isn’t doing this alone. Local legend Wilfried Zaha is also co-owner. Despite playing on loan for Lyon, Zaha travels to London to watch the games – sometimes with less than 50 people in the crowd. It’s a morale boost to the roster built on South London talent.

The sponsorship dollars are rolling in too, with Stormzy calling on his long-term partners at Adidas to supply the team kits and build #MerkyFC, a state-of-the-art football center and recording studio for the Croydon community. Wingstop sponsored the team kits and provided jobs in the neighborhood with a new store.

So don’t think he’s just another wealthy celebrity cashing in on the soccer ownership rush. He’s a neighborhood kid really living his raps.
