Next Stop On The NFL’s Quest For World Domination: Brazil

Plus, the dream summer of Emma Navarro.

Sports. Culture. Curated Daily.

Stefon Diggs was made to be a cover star. The standout wide out is as comfortable in Prada and Gucci as he is in full pads, and he’s unimpressed with the state of the NBA tunnel walk.

The Formula 1 boom is still going strong. Now the sport is working to get a woman a seat in the top flight of motorsports with its F1 Academy. 19-year-old Bianca Bustamante is a development driver under McLaren—how far can she climb?

How much money do you think will be bet on the upcoming NFL season? If your guess was below $35 billion, you’re too low. Hopefully there’s a winner or two in there for you.

With two more wins, Frances Tiafoe could become the first Black American to win the U.S. Open since Arthur Ashe—whose name now dons the stadium that will host the final. No pressure, buddy.

Chelsea sent star forward Raheem Sterling to Arsenal but will stay paying him $200,000 a week. Why? They are simply built different. Well, not actually. Soccer money is just weird.

The NFL is getting an early start to its international series this year on Friday night in the league’s first ever game in Brazil. It’s the NFL’s most ambitious destination yet.

There was initially talk that fans attending the game shouldn’t wear green—a tough ask in a matchup between the Eagles and Packers—due to the potential for violence. Those reports were overblown. Basically, be a smart traveler and you’ll be fine. (If you’re going, send pics!)

Not overblown? Brazil’s ban on Twitter (ugh, fine, X). Teams, reporters, and fans are all dealing with the social media blackout in their own ways. If any institution could prompt a shift away from X, it would be the NFL, but is Threads really ready for the main stage?

Despite the X ban, social media will find a way. NBC is bringing back the influencer army for the opening week of NFL action. If you thought there was a lot of Tayvis content last year, well, get ready for Thursday.

Your most annoying friend has probably reminded you a few times that soccer, not football, is the most popular sport in the world. That may be true, but the NFL is making moves. There’s games in London and Munich between now and Christmas, and a date in Madrid is set to be one of a possible eight international games next season.

Soccer’s great, but the NFL has some things that can’t be replicated. Has Rihanna ever announced her pregnancy while performing at halftime of the World Cup final? Didn’t think so.

We have received word that brat summer is over. When the final scorecards are tallied, it’s possible no one in sports did it like tennis star Emma Navarro this year.

Navarro’s dream stretch began in July when she represented Team USA at the Olympics in Paris. She caught a pic with LeBron during opening ceremonies and used the opportunity to recreate one of his most iconic memes. She also had fun on TikTok with fellow billionaire heiress/tennis pro Jessica Pegula.

keeping @emmanav on schedule lollll😂 @Coco Gauff @des_k #olympics #parisolympics2024 @Olympics

Her play on the court is matching the fun she’s having off it. Tennis is one of the few sports where you can call a 23-year-old a “late bloomer,” but Navarro’s path to the pros included two years at Virginia, something of a rarity among players ranked in the top 100.

After wins over Coco Gauff and Paula Badosa, Navarro is now through to the semifinal—her deepest run yet at a grand slam. The bright lights might be new, but don’t get it twisted—she belongs here.

With just two more wins, Navarro gets her name etched into history. We’ll be watching.

In a video to announce the which games the “ManningCast” will cover this year, brothers Peyton and Eli produced a 10-minute musical that has more cameos than the new Deadpool movie.

Seriously look at this star power: Robert Downey Jr.? Livvy Dunne? Head coaches Sean McVay, Mike McDaniel, and both Harbaughs all doing a bit together? Snoop Dogg?

Okay, that last one doesn’t really surprise us. Still though, quite the roster.

But if you just want to know which games are getting the ManningCast, here ya go.
