Mina Kimes Has Put All Of Broadcasting On Notice

Plus, Are There Sports In Antarctica?

…Because she’s the hardest-working businesswoman in sports. Bird has another biz venture, and this one (a marketing firm for female athletes, in partnership with Deep Blue) is with the second busiest woman in the world, Allyson Felix.

Tommy isn’t just for the preps anymore. Tommy Hilfiger partnered with ‘47 to bring the classic Hilfiger look to NBA caps. They only released the big market teams, sorry, as always, to those in small markets. Someday you’ll have your day.

Remember the airless basketball that cost $2,500 and sold out in seconds? It’s back! Hopefully you’ve been saving. Otherwise, start checking your couch cushions.

Kyle Smith didn’t like sports growing up, and when he first applied to work in football, laughed with his father at the possibility of getting an interview. So how did he carve out a previously non-existent role for himself as fashion editor the NFL?

This Happy Gilmore 2 teaser features cameos from most of the big golf names, and they look like they’re naturals. Rory, Scottie, Bryson, Brooks, Justin, and, oh, Ben Stiller.

When sports fans talk about generational talents, they don’t usually mean broadcasters. That is, until Mina Kimes came on the scene. There aren’t many people who can follow a Beyoncé halftime show and be just as engaging in their analysis as Queen Bey’s performance. But Mina can

The Emmy-nominated analyst is one of the few who never played the game she expertly dissects. In fact, she changed that paradigm entirely—giving credence to the thought that anyone could be an analyst.

Years and years ago, Mina got hired at ESPN after writing an essay about her dad and the Seahawks on Tumblr. Now, she’s filling theaters of 1500 with her live show, which she did to raise money for wildfire relief in LA (Oh great, she’s amazingly philanthropic, too…).

The most remarkable thing about her? She’s just as comfortable and engaging when she’s talking about beans, her dog, or changing the world as she is about any given team’s backup nose tackle. She has a way of welcoming new (or less-than-analytical) viewers into the technical conversation. Even if you don’t really fully understand what she’s talking about (relatable), you still want to hear her do it. Plus, she isn’t afraid to wear the same outfit more than once

We aren’t the first ones to talk about Mina, obviously, but her achievements bear repeating because no one is doing it like her. Also, good news for Chiefs fans, she predicts a KC win on Sunday, and she’s a genius, so.

On Friday morning, catch a special panel on How Sports Became A Fashion Business curated by OffBall, featuring Flau’jae Johnson. RSVP for that here. Stop by the SPORT BEACH Clubhouse at 611 Fulton Street to visit the OffBall and Stagwell teams all weekend long.

SPORT BEACH is a brand-building experience for leaders at the intersection of sport and culture. Focused on athlete-led storytelling, SPORT BEACH brings together industry leaders, creatives, and athletes, to facilitate meaningful connections at key moments throughout the year.

A New Orleans Super Bowl is more than a game, it’s a cultural collaboration that weaves fashion, food, music, and nightlife into a weeklong Party Gras. OffBall is excited to power SPORT BEACH’s Super Bowl edition of their daily newsletter dedicated to everything happening around NOLA.

Did you know they play sports at the bottom of the globe? That’s a cold hard fact. Emphasis on cold.

Most people in Antarctica are there for research purposes. Just what they research, well, that’s for scientists to answer. We just do sports. We came across this story about how a fan in such a remote location finds a way to watch her precious Bills, and got to wondering what other sporty things are happening down there.

Depending on the time of year—it’s gotta be during summer, aka winter for the northern hemisphere—softball is played. In 2022, the MLB and MiLB sanctioned a softball game at the McMurdo research station, and it seems like the temporary residents have kept the tradition alive since

Since Antarctica attracts about 10,000 visitors each year, they have strict regulations on tourist behavior. Golf isn’t really permitted, but you can try and play. Some people go because they display a level of petty the rest of us can only dream of.

As you can imagine, people are snow-sporting a bunch over there. Although, technically, “people” this inspiring and accomplished, who are skiing hundreds of miles in extreme weather despite being paralyzed from other sports, are probably super-human.

And, you’d think it would be too icy and slick, but some are running ultra marathons down there

OffBall wants to connect with you whether you’re a creator, writer, or partner. We’d love to hear from you. Email [email protected] with any inquiries.
