Our friends at “Casuals” and “Well Played” recorded their episodes live, Justin Bieber linked up with Novak Djokovic, a fan showed up as Jordyn Woods’ purse, and Gronk did a gender reveal spike. Also, a million other things that I can’t list off because I have a job and a life (kind of). 

Tom Brady spent all weekend flipping off (and slapping?) Logan Paul. Obviously this is a wrestling thing, but I’m not really going to get into it further. You’re welcome to do your own research. 

We’re finally getting a documentary on the 40-year dominance of UConn women’s hoops. It will come in three parts, and feature exclusive interviews with the 2025 Nattie-winning players (like, a little someone named Paige Bueckers). Since Apple TV famously doesn’t market its shows, I’m happy to do it here. I’m even thinking about making t-shirts. 

Here’s a definitive list of the winners and losers at this World Cup, as told by The Hollywood Reporter’s Scott Roxborough and Lily Ford. Spoiler: Argentina is in the loser column, but maybe not for the reason you think. 

WNBA All-Star is this weekend in Chicago! If you’re going, you legally have to tell me slash hang out with me. Either way, let’s get you primed. The StudBudz are doing another 72-hour stream (recall that it did indeed heal the nation last year so this is huge). The rosters are set. Tyla is performing at halftime. One of America’s best women’s sports bars is hosting all kinds of fun stuff. 

It’s the end of the World Cup as we know it, and I feel  fine sad. While I’m excited to go back to a normal sports viewing schedule, I will have a big World Cup-shaped hole in my heart. 

So, one final time, let’s see how the internet reacted to Spain’s victory over Argentina. 

Rafa Nadal celebrated from home. 

Speaking of Spanish tennis players, Carlos Alcaraz could barely see it over his gorgeous head of hair, but that didn’t stop him from celebrating at MetLife Stadium. 

Rosalía watched (and partied) from bed. 

ArtButMakeItSports was in his bag again (at this point it goes without saying but whatever).

Everyone kinda (rightfully) lost their minds about Shakira’s part of the halftime show. 

Everyone questioned Justin Bieber’s song choice, but you know what, he can do whatever he wants if you ask me (or Jalen Brunson). 

There were too many celebs and athletes there to name, but I’ll do it anyway. Wemby was there, so were Dua Lipa and Callum Turner, so was AKA Rocky (aka Pharrell), so were Josh and Shannon Hart. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky (the real one) and Beyonce and Jay-Z, too.  Even Odysseus himself, Matt Damon. 

Zlatan said it was his first and last World Cup in the broadcast studio — something I reject personally. 

And I guess the biggest surprise was Post Malone letting everyone know he’s rapping again. I think? 

The highlight of the weekend were the final World Cup games, yes, but arguably more exciting was my interview with Balogun (which is his preferred name). I learned about the one place he wants to visit in America, that he is open to an apartment swap with me, and that his American accent can use some work. 

Then, I talked to Issa Rae (that Issa Rae) and we’ve got big plans to reboot “Lady Bugs.” We’ll make Rodney Dangerfield proud. 

And finally, Christen Press told me she was already gearing up for the Women’s World Cup in 2027. 

But the real reason for the event, besides us all hanging out on a yacht for a few hours, was that my colleague Daniel-Yaw Miller chatted with them about investing in, growing, and celebrating the game on a panel for Don Julio 1942 at Port of Champions celebrating FIFA World Cup Finals Week. 

If you missed it, you made a big mistake…HUGE. And if you were there, I hope you loved it as much as I did. The panelists (moderator included) were engaging, insightful, and made for a beautiful ending to one of the best World Cup tournaments of all time.
