Plus, LOVB Finals Are Here

…Because he and director Matthew Vaughan have started an indie studio together. They say it will embrace “innovative technology” while “nodding to tradition.” Is that a fancy way to say they’re using AI?
The OKC Thunder had merch made for reporter Nick Gallo, whom they famously love putting accessories on during post-game interviews. That’s the good stuff, folks.
We all assumed Jason Day’s looks would be the biggest headline out of Augusta, but it turns out Phil Mickelson is the real head-turner. Lefty’s making the right fashion choices.
Don’t balk at Ken Griffey Jr.’s photog skills, because he got a credential to shoot The Masters. That joke doesn’t exactly work because he wasn’t a pitcher, but just let us have it.
Mizuno is back, baby. Our cousin-that’s-close-like-a-sibling newsletter, SportsVerse, wrote about this last month, and the Japanese brand’s new deal with Monaco proves it. Monaco said, “we want Mizuno for five years, no Kap(pa).”

We’ve been watching very closely as Anne Hathaway celebrates (or stresses over) her favorite teams.
We first learned about her fandom as she nervously watched the Yankees on a jet on a tarmac in China last season. That’s not quite our usual viewing experience, but it's somewhat relatable, nonetheless.
Then, she almost got killed (ok, that’s not true, she wasn’t even harmed, but drama is her thing, she’s an actor) by OG Anunoby while courtside at her beloved Knicks’ game. She actually bragged about it on social the next day and thanked him for almost crashing into her. Something he was also happy to have done.
It was surprising to see her celebrating a victory while donning Eagles green at the Super Bowl this year. Presumably, she ditched the New York Football Giants, unless she was just acting like a Giants fan—get it?
And most recently, she went viral for singing North London Forever after Arsenal whooped Real Madrid’s culata, 3-0.
Just Anne Hathaway singing North London Forever after a 3-0 dismantling of Real Madrid 🤩 Proper Arsenal. What a time to be a Gunner ❤️

What’s next, Anne Hathaway does a TikTok dance with Ellie the Elephant at a Liberty game? Ok, actually, we need that to happen ASAP.

We hear so often just how obsessed athletes are with their extracurricular pursuits. A lot of the time, there isn’t much more to their every day besides pumping iron and pounding green juices. But for the women of LOVB, that’s not the case.
League One Volleyball is coming to the end of its inaugural season, and the finals are this weekend. While the play is the best of the best, the players are just as gifted off the court.
OffBall spoke to Tiffany Oshinsky, former player and host of LOVB podcast Serving Pancakes, about this, and she explained: “Volleyball didn’t always have a clear next step after college. Unless you made the U.S. National Team or went overseas, your path kind of ended. So players had to think about other careers, other passions. That’s part of what makes volleyball players so interesting—we’ve had to be more than just athletes.”
Let’s meet some of these multi-hyphenated volleyballers. Temi Thomas-Ailara is an opposite hitter for LOVB Madison, but she’s also a biomedical engineering major (Oshinsky told us the hospital nearby played into her decision to play her fifth year at Wisconsin). Yeah, no need to do the dramatic cartoonish eye rub with both fists—you read it right. Temi wants to design prosthetics.
Haleigh Washington is an Olympic gold medalist and middle blocker who plays for LOVB Salt Lake. She kept playing because she wanted to save for grad school, where she’s pursuing her actual dream job of becoming a librarian. Ok, maybe it’s time for the cartoon eye rub. Haleigh is a self-proclaimed “Book Dragon” who can (and will) talk for hours about her favorite stories and authors.
Chiaka Ogbogu is another Olympic gold medalist and middle blocker. Her aspirations are to carve out a path where women can help run the game rather than just play it. She hopes to be an owner.
If you’re getting married anytime soon, how would you like to have a professional athlete as your wedding photographer? Claire Chaussee is one. Many of the players are natural-born crafters in their downtime, like Olympic medalist Micah Hancock, and Madi Kingdon Rishel, both on LOVB Houston are big crochet gals.
If you can believe it, professional athletes are out here holed up in a library, crocheting and making prosthetics. In a world where athletes are asked to choose one path, volleyballers are actually encouraged to choose multiple. And according to Oshinsky, they’ll always be able to do both. There is still a tournament (put on by USA Volleyball) where “retired” players participate, and some of them are 70 years old. Cartoonish eye rub!

Despite Apple’s aversion to market their shows, which are arguably some of the best in the game, they released a teaser for the Owen Wilson joint, Stick. Honestly, he’s always looked like a golfer, so this works.
